How this energy cost calculator works
Watts show how much power an appliance uses while it is running. A kilowatt hour, or kWh, is the amount of energy used by a 1,000 watt appliance running for one hour.
UK electricity unit rates are usually shown in pence per kWh. This calculator turns watts and usage time into kWh, then estimates the cost per use, weekly cost, monthly cost and yearly cost.
Use My Household to add several appliances together and estimate household appliance running costs. Appliance wattage varies by model and setting, so check the appliance label or manual for the most accurate figure.
Example: Running a 1500W air fryer for 30 minutes costs around £0.18 at an electricity unit rate of 24.5p per kWh.
